How does the IPL treatment work?
The quick answer; IPL works using high intensity light to target specific structures within the skin.
The hair is damaged by the heat generated and the light is absorbed by the melanin in the hair.
This damages the follicle making it unable to support further hair growth.
This is a very effective treatment, up to 95% permanent hair reduction!
What does IPL stand for?
Intense Pulsed Light.
Intense Pulsed Light is the process of using specific wavelengths of light to provide a range of aesthetic and therapeutic treatments.
IPL is different to laser based therapies that only produce a single wavelength of light and can therefore only treat a specific condition.
Is it painful?
No needles just a slight warm tingling sensation best describes the feeling experienced during a IPL treatment.
This is minimised by a specially developed Cryo-handset that is placed on the skin before the treatment, this has an anaesthetic effect on the skin surface, the IPL is more comfortable than most conventional methods like waxing, laser and electrolysis and many other IPL systems.
What will happen during my treatment?
We will start with a in depth consultation. Your Therapist will determine your individual needs and devise a treatment plan to achieve the results that you require. You will be asked to fill in a in-depth medical questionnaire, it is vital that you provide correct information.
Your hair should be shaved 24-48 hours prior to treatment. This allows a 1-2 mm stubble, ideal for an effective treatment. The treatment area will be cleaned and dried before treatment commences. Dry, shaven and clean skin means that the light can penetrate the skin unobstructed.
Once the area is prepped your therapist can begin the treatment. Our unique “Cryo” cooling handset is first applied to the treatment area. This anaesthetises the area before the light treatment. Your therapist will then move over the treatment area in a grid method using the cryo and flash handsets in tandem.
At the end of your treatment, A cooling gel such as aloe vera should be applied to help cool the treated area.
After a IPL treatment it is essential to protect the skin from excessive sun exposure by applying a moisturiser with an SPF. This is especially true in the summer months. Failure to apply regular sun cream could cause the pigmentation or burning in the area.
How long does each treatment take?
IPL treatment times are similar to waxing, each treatment is very quick.
In fact our consultation process is often longer than the actual treatment.
After IPL you can go about your daily life, with no irritation, redness or sore areas.
You can return to work immediately following treatments so no need to take any additional time out to complete your course.
